Artist Profile As a child, I was always very artistic and creative, inspired by my Mother who was an excellent painter. Art was everywhere in my life, from all the paintings on our walls, to the classes I took at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I went to Barnard College where I majored in Art History, the most enjoyable of majors, especially in New York City with all its museums and galleries. After college I went to Europe and lived in many countries, learning to speak several languages fluently and raising a family. I was fortunate to be able to experience many cultures and make friends in all of them. Among the more interesting places I lived was Sarajevo with its strong Turkish influence, and Milan, capital of Italian design. Being a very visual person with an appreciation of composition, color and pattern, I found my niche designing jewelry. I am drawn to the beauty of natural gemstones, the luster of pearls, and the exquisite workmanship of the lampwork beads I use. I also incorporate fused dichroic glass which I make in my own studio. My objective is to create unique pieces of excellent quality at affordable prices. In 2001 I learned to do stained glass, but in 2004, craving something different, I took an 8-week class to learn to fuse glass. My goal was to learn how to make colorful jewelry components of dichroic glass. Since then I have consistently tried to create pieces which are unique and different from those I see at craft fairs and shows. I hope you will experience the same visual pleasure that I do when I make them. |
